Hunger Games 2: “Catching Fire”

The second movie in the Hunger Games series, “Catching Fire,” comes to theaters on November 22, 2013.

Senior Chelsy Devon said she is planning on going to the midnight premiere.

Keely Holt, junior, said she is “definitely going to see the second movie, but I doubt I am going to see it opening night. I think I can wait until it comes out on DVD or for it to come to Bear Tooth.

Senior Makenzie Johnson agrees with Holt. She is going to see the movie, but she doesn’t think she will go to the theater on opening night.

In March of 2012, the first Hunger Games movie came out in theaters and it was very popular.

The series takes place in America in the future.

There are 12 districts, and the Capital runs everything.

Years before, there were uprisings in the districts and the Capital declared that every year there would be a “Hunger Games” where a girl and a boy from each district is chosen to be put in an arena and fight to the death. The idea is that there is only one victor.

The first book and movie takes place before and during the 74th Hunger Games, and the second one will outline what happened between the end of the 74th Hunger Games and the end of the 75th.

In the first book, Primrose Everdeen is chosen to be the contestant from District 12, but her sister, Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, volunteers to go to the Hunger Games instead of Primrose.

Johnson said “[My favorite character is] Katniss because of how she risked her life to protect her sister.”

Holt said, “Katniss is obviously my favorite character.”

Peeta Mellark, the baker’s son, is played by Josh Hutcherson, and is chosen as the other contestant from District 12.

Devon said her favorite character is Peeta, “because he likes bread and baking.”

Many people have read the entire book series.

Devon said, “I read all the books three times each,” and her favorite was the first one.

Johnson said she “read all three books only one time.

They were decent, but I didn’t hate them or become obsessed with them,” said Johnson.

Holt said she read all the books once and she really like the first one but “honestly, I don’t really remember the second book.”

She read the first book then “I went to the store and got both the second and third books and I read both in one day so I don’t really remember the story.

“The whole series sort of blended together into one big story.

“I really enjoyed the books, but the ending was disappointing for me. It seemed like it just sort of ended abruptly,” said Holt.
