Emma Watson: More Than Just Hermione

An upcoming excitement for all and any Emma Watson fans is her newest film “Beauty and the Beast,” where Emma will be starring as Princess Belle.

Watson believes that Belle is a strong role model for children and gives the message that reading is smart, and men don’t need to be everything to be loved.

Madison Briley, a junior at Dimond, said, “I only know Emma Watson from her role as Hermione, but I am really looking forward to the new movie she’s going to be in!”

The beloved Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is known by the entire world as the sassy and intelligent female lead in Harry Potter, Hermione Granger.

Although the Harry Potter series was indeed the beginning to her fame, she has accomplished so much more than simply this role.

Many student at Dimond recognize Watson for her accomplishments outside of the Harry Potter films.

Jessica Husa, a junior at Dimond, said, “I’ve never been a huge Harry Potter fan, but I’ve always loved the work that Emma Watson does. I feel like a lot of people have no idea that she’s a part of the UN and that’s one of the most unique parts of her career.”

Marian Sintos, a junior, said, “In fourth grade my teacher has us decorate our art boxes where we could keep things that needed to go home. I pulled out a ton of magazines and cut out all of Emma Watson’s photoshoot pictures. She’s an amazing model and that’s something about her many people overlook.”

Watson has been involved in roles of all genres, in 2013 she acted in The Bling Ring, a film which portrays a young group of rebel teens.

She has also been involved in the 2012 film, The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, the film Noah and she played the voice of a princess in The Tale of Despereaux.

For her outstanding acting career Watson has received many rewards.

         Outside of acting Emma Watson proves to be just as outstanding and well rounded.

As seen through Entertainment Weekly Watson represents the United Nations Women’s Goodwill Ambassador as of 2014.

With the UN, Watson proves to be a strong advocate for their program HeForShe, which is a campaign to promote gender equality.

Regarding this program, Watson said, “I think it is right that I am paid the same as my male counterparts. I think it is right that I should be able to make decisions about my own body. I think it is right that women be involved, on my behalf, in the policies and the decisions that will affect my life. I think it is right that socially, I am afforded the same respect as men.”

Similarly, outside of acting Watson also is involved in modeling and clothing design.

Watson has modeled for Burberry and Lanc, which are both high end clothing companies.

She has additionally become involved in the fair trade fashion brand People Tree.
