People all over the world, including Dimond High School, are excited about the newest game, and they cannot keep their eyes off of their screens.

Fortnite Battle Royale was released on consoles for Xbox, Playstation and PC over the past summer, but now Epic Games, developers of Fortnite, released a new application for mobile devices and it is the hot topic among gamers.

Fortnite Battle Royale is a third-person shooter game where people fight to be the last one standing, all while collecting resources, different ranked weapons and running away from a deadly storm which shrinks as the game goes on.

People of all ages, freshmen through seniors, are hooked. People can play with their friends as Duos, Squads or even play on their own as Solo and fight to get the Victory Royale.

Fortnite allows players to build large structures to protect themselves against enemy attacks. Players need to farm for trees, stones or demolish buildings to gain the resources to build these structures.

Now, not every game comes out as everyone expects. Although the Fortnite app was a pretty big success, there were a few complaints about it as well.

Dimond High Freshman Maliea Khamnivong said, “I was excited when I was told they were making it for mobile.

“I thought it would be so cool, but now that it came out, I was pretty disappointed. The controls are difficult and you can’t change them.”

Dimond High Senior Kurt Flores said, “[The] controls are hard to use.”

Students from other schools also have the same complaint about the new app.

William Ieti, a West High senior, said, “I prefer to play on console. Just because, the phone one is weird.”

Many students think the app was a great idea, but would rather play on console or PC, preferably with a controller.

Although the controls may be hard to grasp, it is still agreeable that the game in general is addictive and fun to play.

“It is just a great game,” said Khamnivong. “Like, everything about it is great. It is addicting, once you get your first [win] you can not stop playing.”

The creators of the Fortnite game make regular updates that include new weapons, temporary modes for people to play and outfits to buy.

Fortnite items are bought with a special currency called V-Bucks. V-Bucks allow players to buy new outfits, pickaxes, parachutes and emotes.

Emotes can be used by players to express themselves on the battlefield. They can be anything from a sticker to unique dance moves.

Although the app may be more difficult to use than it is with a controller or console, the game is still fun and keeps players coming back for more.

Epic Games also has a mode that will be coming out for free later this year called “Save the World.”

According to an article written by Daniel Mackrell, he wrote, “Fortnite’s Save the World mode has different gameplay to the popular Battle Royale game, with a heavier focus on exploration and survival against AI enemies rather than fighting each other.”

This new mode’s release date is still being decided by the creators, but with the big turnout for Battle Royale, the future for this mode looks to be just as successful.
