DNL Returns

Dimond’s annual night of laughs is back.

Dimond Night Live had to take a hiatus last year due to the school closure, but is set to return and will be a little different this time around.

“This year we made the decision to film all of our skits instead of performing in front of a live audience,” Tim Peters, DNL director, said.

“We are going to be using different parts of the school to film so it will give us a chance to get a little creative which is awesome.”

This will be Peters’ second year as a director and fifth year being involved with DNL as he participated in it for three years as a student.

Alongside Peters, Kristen Melican-Nevala is also one of the group directors.

“The groups are split between upperclassmen and lowerclassmen. I’m in Melican’s group,” Dimond Senior Zach Jenkins said.

This is Jenkins’ first year participating in DNL.

“I have three skits I’m acting in and get to help out during the teacher’s reading tweets segment.”

Rehearsals have already started, and while it’s too late to join this year, next year auditions will be posted around March.

Senior Ian Cruickshank and Sophomore Sycely Wheeles are some students who are writing scripts for this year’s DNL.

“Mainly we try to push for students to come up with skits. But if we are ever short, we do use SNL as an inspiration,” Peters said.

“We have used skits from previous DNL’s as well.”

Being able to film around the school should allow a lot more freedom when coming up with ideas for the skits.

Filming begins April 17, where the crew will film on the stage and around the school.

“It’s great being able to film around the school, it gives so much more room,” Senior Vincent Anderson said, who is also doing DNL for the first time. “It’s been really fun. Being able to hang out with friends while making something fun.”

Covid will look to be a big theme for the night, as DNL likes to look back on what was and do a recap on the year.

“It’s going to be funny I think. We have a lot of great people working on it and it should be a great time,” Jenkins said.

DNL has been a staple for Dimond and its spirit for years and looks like it will continue to bring laughs to Dimond for years to come.

And while an official release date of the finished product has not been announced, it is expected to be around early May.

So make sure you pay attention to Dimond announcements to know when and where you can watch DNL.
