Show Review: Outer Banks

Outer Banks is a show that is loved by many people. I am one of those people. As a result, I have decided to write about it and make a review. Outer Banks is a Netflix series with two seasons. It has been confirmed that there will be a season three and they will be releasing it on February 23rd, 2023. Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke created Outer Banks as a group. They did an amazing job. Hence the name, it was mostly shot on the outer banks of North Carolina. Outer Banks focuses on a group of teens on a hunt for gold that one of the main characters, John B. Routledge’s father, had been close to finding before getting lost at sea.

After John B.’s father had gone missing, he and his friends, Pope, Kiara, and J.J., set out on a mission. They were going to find the gold and move to a different country where fishing was good. John B. is extremely strong-willed and knows what he wants. He is very consistent when he has his mind set on something. The Pope is the brains, the Pope is extremely intelligent and is good at making decisions. Kiara is actually a Kook and she is the only girl in the group. She keeps all of the boys in check. J.J. has connections everywhere and is a wild spirit. He doesn’t care what everyone else thinks about him. J.J. grew up in a troubled home where his father got hooked on addictive drugs and was never there for J.J. This made him fairly independent, although this led to bad coping skills.  This was not as easy as they might have wanted it to be. On the Outer Banks, there are two sides of town, the poor side, and the rich side. The people who lived on the richer side were known as the “Kooks”. The people on the less fortunate side were called the “Pogues”. They hated each other for whatever reason and the kooks did not associate themselves with the pogues. John B and his friends were pogues, so getting this gold would be a challenge.  As if there weren’t enough problems, John B is competing with a grown adult named Ward Cameron to find this gold. This wasn’t a big deal until they found out he was a part of the Kooks.

I overall really like this show and I feel like it’s for people that have a lot of time on their hands. There are currently 20 episodes and each episode is about one hour long. Give or take about 10-20 minutes. Although it doesn’t feel like the episodes are that long. I enjoyed watching this show and it was really easy to find a connection to at least one of the characters. I cried when people in the show cried and I laughed when they did. The show was extremely well made and that definitely shines through the more you watch. I love the constant aspect of mystery and surprise. Once everything starts going smoothly, there is always a turn of events. I overall really feel like this show is beautifully written and produced. I rate Outer Banks a solid 9.
