The Gay/ Straight Alliance is a club where students can come together and talk in a safe place about issues of concern. Most of the activities that the club takes part in are to bring awareness about gay as well as straight peoples issues of concern to others. “This club is considered to be in an advisory role for other clubs,” said Susan Derrera, a Dimond English teacher and sponsor of the club. “Dimond was the first school in Anchorage to ever have a Gay/ Straight Alliance Club,” Dererra said. In the past, the activities that they have done were a full day of silence, display of books in the library and movie meetings after school. In the future they plan to have another day of silence. This club would like more students to join. They meet every Thursday at lunch in room A107.
