Dimond football season is coming soon and the football athletes are getting ready for practice to start. Some athletes have been taking advantage of the open weight room in the old gym. The weight room is open from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. after school. So far, three weeks since the opening of the weight room, there are 15 to 20 people that are going, most of them freshmen and sophomores. There are also many other athletes training for football next season by playing spring sports. Dimond teacher Brett Ducher is the one who is in charge of the weight training inside the weight room after school. Dimond’s receivers and defensive backs coach Eric Peterson says that, “There is plenty of talent, especially in the skill positions. If people are up for being linemen, then we could possibly be a playoff contender next year.” Motivation for Dimond’s football team is lacking. People who have been talking badly of the Lynx coming off a poor season have made football players less motivated to train. Which translates to making it harder to make the team better. The athletes who have been training consistently will make the football team better and next year. Registration will begin from July 19 to Aug. 17, Monday through Friday 7-11 a.m and 12-2:45 p.m. Practice will begin on July 26 for football, but athletes can be training right now during the off season.
