Boston’s If you are looking for an amazing brownie sundae, this is the place to go! Two large brownies, filled with chocolate chips and no nuts, are served beneath four scoops of vanilla ice cream topped with warm chocolate sauce and caramel. The brownies have a denser texture, which makes them ideal for eating with ice cream. Dimond Junior Kaily Baginski calls it “the best brownie dessert I have ever had.” It is important to enjoy the dessert while at the restaurant, rather than “to go,” because the ice cream all melts. 2830 C Street Anchorage, AK 99503-3910 City Diner The best dessert here is the milkshakes. They are served in a classic milkshake cup with whipped cream, along with a refill cup. They offer vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavors, which all go great with their amazing French-fries. The brownie sundae is a bit of a letdown, though. The texture of the brownies does not go well with the ice cream, and there is a little too much chocolate sauce. The one uniquely good thing about them, however, is that they can be made with chocolate or strawberry ice cream, in addition to the regular vanilla option. 3000 Minnesota Drive Anchorage, AK 99503-3664 Fire Tap This is home to an amazing cookie sundae. The chocolate chip cookie is made fresh when ordered, the dough filling the pan it is served in. It is not completely cooked, and is still warm when it comes out, with a taste similar to that of the Nestle Tollhouse recipe. Two scoops of vanilla ice cream are placed on top, along with chocolate sauce and caramel. Praline sauce and whipped cream can be added upon request. Junior Samantha Castle believes “the cookie dessert is just amazing.” 10950 O’Malley Centre Drive Anchorage, AK 99515 What’s the Scoop? This local ice cream shop serves 24 flavors of Cascade Glacier ice cream. The ice cream is not too rich, and is a favorite among many Alaskans. The employees at the shop are very nice, and it has a cozy atmosphere. It is important to note that they close at 5 p.m, except on Saturday when they close at 8 p.m. This ice cream supplier can also be found at the Ice Cream Shop at the Tesoro strip mall in Girdwood, and the ice cream shop at the end of the Homer Spit. 3561 E Tudor Rd # 6 Anchorage, AK 99507-1200 Cold Stone Creamery & Marble Slab Creamery These two franchises are quite similar. They are both known for mixing in toppings into the ice cream, allowing for an almost infinite possibility of creations. Cold Stone has a few more mix-ins, such as brownies, which Marble Slab sells but does not offer as a mix-in. The cookie dough mix-in at Marble Slab is a little too sweet, and not soft and fresh tasting like those at Cold Stone. In addition to better mix-ins and larger portions, Cold Stone is also about 30 cents cheaper. Unfortunately, the only Cold Stone remaining in Anchorage is the Huffman location, as the Jewel Lake, Northern Lights, and Muldoon locations have closed. Cold Stone Creamery 12350 Industry Way Anchorage, AK 99515 Marble Slab Creamery 1118 N Muldoon Rd Anchorage, Alaska 99504 Red Robin The milkshakes here are quite similar to those at City Diner, in that they are served in a classic milkshake cup with whipped cream along with a refill cup on the side. However, in addition to offering vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry, Red Robin also offers blueberry, banana, mint, and peach, and Oreos or brownie pieces as a mix-in. Another frozen specialty here worth mentioning is the Hawaiian Heartthrob Smoothie. It is a delicious blend of strawberries, bananas, grenadine, coconut cream, and pineapple juice, served in a cool swirly cup with a pineapple and cherry perched on top. This is a great dessert if you want something yummy, but also semi-nutritious. 401 East Dimond Boulevard Anchorage, AK 99518 3401 Penland Parkway Anchorage, AK 99508 1190 N Muldoon Rd, Unit E Anchorage, AK 99504 Lucky Wishbone This diner has served great food in Anchorage for over 50 years. Their milkshakes are well known in town, as they should be. They are thicker than those at City Diner and Red Robin, and are served in an ordinary Coca-Cola paper cup. The flavors include chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and peanut butter and Oreos as mix-ins. 1033 East 5th Avenue Anchorage, AK 99501
