Of all the movies released in the past couple of months, “Pitch Perfect,” released on October 5, 2012, was one that received the most buzz from viewers. The story follows Beca (Anna Kendrick), a freshman at Barden University, and her adventures with an acapella singing group, The Barden Bellas. Beca, who DJs music for entertainment, is reluctant to join the Bellas at all. In the end her dad gives her an ultimatum: either she gets involved in other activities besides mixing music, or he’ll stop paying her way through college. This marks the beginning of Beca’s singing career with the snobby Barden Bellas. Along the way, many new and interesting characters are introduced to us, one of the most popular being Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson). Almost everyone interviewed revealed that their favorite character was Fat Amy, for one reason or another. Senior Ariella Lewis said, “I like Fat Amy because she can mermaid dance.” For those who haven’t seen the movie, mermaid dancing is when you lie on the ground and wiggle around like a mermaid. Others, like Sophomore Omran Elomari, say they like Fat Amy because “she’s just hilarious.” The movie follows the Barden Bellas on their journey to win the a cappella championships, encountering some interesting obstacles on the way. Among these obstacles are noids, stagefright and running out of gas. “My favorite part is when Fat Amy is about to pump the gas and she gets hit by a burrito and says, ‘I’ve been shot by flying Mexican food!’” said Junior Lorenzo Marqueda. According to IMBD, the critics seemed to enjoy this movie. Of all viewers, 87 percent reportedly liked it and would see it again. It was released early for a limited 3 day period, and in that time made $1.8 million from just 335 theaters. This doesn’t even begin to cover the revenue from the opening weekend in the box office. Those who have seen it would quickly recommend you go see it if you haven’t already. Although viewers tend to perceive it as a chick flick, that’s not to say guys won’t like it, as well. As Sophomore Remi Embly says, “Even though it’s more of a girl movie, guys will definitely appreciate it as well.” “Pitch Perfect” is an all-around movie with a little bit of everything; you’ve got your drama, you’ve got your romance, your comedy and even a little bit of suspense. It has something for everyone to enjoy. In other words, if you haven’t seen it yet, go see it; you’re bound to get at least a couple of laughs out.
