Prom Can Be Fun Without A Date

I know there are some girls out there with no dates that are considering skipping prom.

While parents usually try to push their kids to go to prom, for the sake of the memories, sometimes you can’t manage to track down a date.

Going without a date can seem intimidating, maybe even embarrassing, but is it socially unacceptable?

Senior Lily Bee shared her prom philosophy willingly.

“I would go without a date,” she said.

“I don’t see a problem with it, a lot of people do it all the time. You go to have fun, have a good time with your friends. People don’t need to have dates to have fun,” Senior Lily Bee said.

However, when we think of prom we tend to picture the end of every teen girl movie ever.

Our minds manage to conjure up the last few scenes of the movie “Mean Girls.”

While the media portrays prom as some magical alternate universe, where everything and anything can happen, in reality, it is just another dance.

And a much more expensive dance at that.

So what do you do if you don’t manage to get a date for prom?

“Well I would just go with my group of friends, go to dinner, get a pretty dress, look nice and just dance the night away,” Bee said.

Is it even worth it, if you don’t have a date? You might be thinking, that’s a lot of money to spend on one night.

Yes, it is, and whether or not you will enjoy prom might depend on what kind of person you are.

People who are reserved, quiet and more introverted probably won’t get as much out of it as people who enjoy the loud atmosphere and energy.

Also, if you are sure that you don’t even want to go, don’t let anyone pressure you into it.

Some who do actually want to go are faced with the decision of going by themselves.

Are there any benefits of going without a date? Of course there are.

“You’re not held down to anybody, you can dance with who ever you want,” Bee said.

Going with a date, can be awkward and stressful sometimes.

“You have to act ladylike, It could be pretty stressful if you’re worried about your date having a good time,” Bee said.

As for going with a date, I have heard some awkward prom stories from friends.

If you do manage to find a date, you might end up going with someone you are not particularly close with.

“Go with someone you know well, and feel comfortable with, It’s going to be mostly awkward because you don’t know the person that well,” Bee said.

However, that’s not always the case.

“It could also be a fun experience, you can get to know someone new.”

The main point about going without a date, and even just going to prom?

“It’s as fun as you make it!” Bee said.
