REVIEW – Rain World is a 16-bit survival indie game where you have to survive in a hostile world as a slugcat, a creature that could either be predator or prey. You have to traverse difficult but amazing terrain for survival or a better life in this hostile world. There are many creatures to hunt or flee from and multiple regions, rooms, and places to go as multiple unique slug cats with their own abilities, backstories, and plots in Rain World. This game is said to be difficult to play due to the learning curves, inconsistent dens, and dangerous predators. But in my opinion, this makes the game much more fun and rewarding when you complete one of the three (or nine with Downpour) slugcat campaigns. The design and animations are amazing, each of the characters or places have their backgrounds and stories you could learn from the remains of the past.
SLUGCATS- The player will start either playing as the Monk or Survivor slug cats. The Monk is a more friendly but weaker slugcat that can befriend other creatures more easily than the others due to the fact it has a high natural reputation and this makes the creatures less hostile. I will recommend killing fewer creatures to keep this high reputation to prevent more problems from happening in your gameplay. The Monk is a nice beginning to Rain World due to fewer threats and easy gameplay. The Survivor is the main slugcat of this game and they are both predator and prey, with their fighting ability being average compared to other slug cats. With the Survivor’s natural creature reputation being lower than the Monk’s, it will be much harder to befriend creatures but this may teach the player the fighting mechanics in the game, which is a huge learning curve but it’s rewarding for future gameplay. Then there’s the Hunter, a slugcat that is more of a predator in this world. The Hunter’s strict diet of meat makes it so the player has to hunt creatures for food each cycle and has to eat much more to save. But this isn’t the only worry, the player has to survive and fulfill their purpose with the limited time they have, or else they will have to face the Hunter’s permanent death. With the Downpour mod or DLC, there are six other slugcat campaigns to play. Those won’t be written so you can see for yourself.
TIPS – Learning the movements, using items, and using weapons early in the game so it would be easier later on in future gameplay and if you plan to get the downpour DLC.
-Remembering the region’s surroundings so it’s easier to travel, so the experience should wander around instead of looking it up.
-Only look things up to help you in the game when you truly need to. (Ex: Getting lost in a region for too long and needing a map, certain creatures or character locations when can’t be found, and achievements)
OPINIONS – So in my opinion, I would recommend Rain World to people who either want a challenge or just want to check out some more games to play.
