If you’ve been looking for the perfect locally-owned burger place in town, I recommend trying out Max’s Beefy Burgers. It’s located on Northern Lights, near a little strip mall, gas stations, and across the street from a Value Village thrift store. I moved into the area about 3 years ago, and while I didn’t visit Max’s for about a year, when I started going I couldn’t stop. They offer a wide variety of options on their menu, including burgers and fries (of course), Hawaiian barbeque, seafood, and Mexican food. Anything you’re in the mood for, they’ve got it. The staff has always been nothing but kind to me and anyone I’m with, and so helpful. The inside of the restaurant has such a cozy feeling, especially in the winter with snow falling outside. The kitchen is in the back, with a big main dining room in the front. Huge windows are covering all of the walls, and sitting inside and watching the cars go by is such a peaceful feeling. I love the way that they decorate for holidays, putting up decorations around Halloween and the winter holidays. I’ve seen people of all ages and different backgrounds eating at Max’s, and working there. They are open from 11 am-9 pm on weekdays, and on Saturdays from 1-9 pm. They are closed on Sundays, which could limit their business, but they get a pretty steady flow of customers. If I were going to recommend an item from their menu, I would recommend the burger and fries. I have yet to find a better burger anywhere else in town! It has the perfect amount of every topping and condiment, cooked perfectly, and when you get fries on the side it pulls the whole thing together. I visited Max’s the other day and asked to interview an employee. The woman at the front register area pointed me to a guy to interview, and when he came out and started talking it turned out he owned the place! His name is David, and he’s been working there for 10 years in total. He bought the restaurant in 2017, but lately, it’s been hard for him to find enough employees. He told me he bought the place because he wanted to develop it even further beyond how it was before. He said that he likes the food there, and that contributed to him wanting to buy it. When I ate there this past weekend the lady at the front desk who pointed me to the owner I interviewed also served me and she was so helpful and nice! To be honest, I couldn’t decide what to get for a minute, and she was patient with me and even offered suggestions. I tipped her 20%, and honestly, every employee I’ve interacted with at this establishment deserves nothing less. I’ve always appreciated places with great employees, and having good and kind employees just makes the place so much more enjoyable to be in
