Have you seen the movie of the summer already? What was better in your opinion Oppenheimer or Barbie? If I’m being completely honest, I haven’t seen Oppenheimer yet. But if you watched Oppenheimer to see how accurate it was compared to the true story, keep reading! The main character in this movie is Robert Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy. He is a very famous Irish actor who was born and raised in Ireland. He has starred in lots of other movies and shows that have kept his name trending in the media. The nickname that has been given to Oppenheimer is “The Father of the Atomic”. If you couldn’t tell he invented the atomic bomb! To get that far he went to Harvard University to get a bachelor’s degree in chemistry which led his future to be working on the Manhattan Project. The reason why Oppenheimer made the atomic bomb was for it to be used in World War 2. During the War, Japan hadn’t surrendered yet to the United States; this was their last option to get them to surrender. In further detail, they planned to drop two atomic bombs on two different cities in Japan. 

      The first bomb named “Little Boy” was dropped on Hiroshima. This didn’t get Japan to surrender so they went in a second time doing even more damage than before. The last atomic bomb dropped on Japan was “Fat Man” in Nagasaki, about 210,000 people died from both of these bombs.” Over the next two to four months, the effects of the atomic bombings killed between 90,000 and 146,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000 and 80,000 people in Nagasaki” (Lawrence & Wetherall, n.d.) This movie stayed very close to the true events and had a great impact on everyone who watched it. “Most of what we see in the film is largely accurate.” (Schedeen, 2023) Aside from how tragic this story and movie seems, it’s a great movie! It sold over $700 million in the box sales the next two days after being released. This now puts it on spot #4 for worldwide office charts for movies, do you think it would be this high on the chart in your opinion?
