READY TO BE, Ready to be what? Happy? Finally, good God. Jokes aside, TWICE released this album on the 10th of March of this year. I had to put off listening to this album for fear of what it entailed; I had only seen the cover and the title track, ‘SET ME FREE’. When I first really took time to listen to it I was immediately drawn to ‘WALLFLOWER’. As a person who loves dance, elegance, and synchronization, this song gave me that feeling. Think about it like this: people never understand why others enjoy Ophera’s; it doesn’t make sense. After you experience it for yourself, it feels like you’ve discovered a new part of yourself. The title track ‘SET ME FREE’ also features an English version of the song, so for those who can’t stand Korean lyrics, the English version is for you. I can’t really explain what this song means exactly, but my heart says that a sad person has a feeling of euphoria, and they have finally come to terms and accepted this as their fate. Therefore “Setting them free” of all guilt and shame brings them the freedom they longed for. ‘BLAME IT ON ME’ is the fourth track on this album. I can’t say much about this song; it gives me the essence that a possible breakup has happened and that someone who was in the wrong was shaming the other. It’s a good song, but it doesn’t necessarily reach my top “Listen To” list. TWICE released a single before this mini album came out called “MOONLIGHT SUNRISE” It also ended up being featured on the album as their eighth official English single. Going into specifics, ‘MOONLIGHT SUNRISE’ mentions a lot of things, to me however it seems like a bit of an obsessive craving for your partner. They broke the fourth wall by saying “I hope this song is on your playlist” Foreshadowing that this song could possibly be featured on a playlist shared by lovers. ‘GOT THE THRILLS’ was a 10/10 song, I could listen to it for hours and not get tired of it. In fact, I already have. The song sends chills down my spine and that’s hard to come by lately. It brings me such an adrenaline rush knowing that each move to each verse is so in sync with each other and how you can use multiple dance styles along with it. The beat is so refreshing and it feels like that second of crisp air that hits you when you take your head out of the water. While the sun is very much alive and slowly sinking into the water of the ocean behind you. It is absolutely exhilarating and breathtaking. I honestly could write a whole book about how this song is such a brain refresher.
The last song I wanted to write about is ‘CRAZY STUPID LOVE’ and honestly, you could ask me the same question a thousand times and the only thing I could do is provide you with different answers each time. “I’m so done with crazy stupid love.” is a verse that follows the chorus and to me, that almost is way too self-explanatory. And it really is relatable, the song expresses so much emotion but never hate. It’s like words that sit on the edge of your tongue, but never quite what you wanted to say. I love the fact that I can listen to every song on this mini Album and not get tired of them, in a way they all relate to a relationship. Beginning, middle, and end. It also feels like it reaches out to an audience who wants nothing to do with relationships, these songs are open enough to where they can be used in any format but always have an original idea.
