Social Contracts

Social contracts are a set of rules that help keep people acting in a way that is acceptable to society and in everyday living. Teachers have students make these contracts to not only help them learn about how to conduct themselves in public and to others at an early age, but so they can also to learn about how other people feel when they are in these situations that require thinking about these social contracts. It is because we have these social contracts that people can go into public and not be afraid to be social, exercise, and just have fun with other people without being judged, harassed, and annoyed.

They are a way of setting rules but still having the free will to choose if you want to follow them or not so that society is still free to choose. They can have many different polite things on them so people don’t treat other people badly. For some examples, they can say be respectful, be nice, make sure to follow the golden rule, be aware of other people’s feelings/step in their shoes, and be respectful of others’ belongings. Sometimes they don’t work, and I asked a friend of mine named Jesse and he said “How about you step in their shoes for a day and see what their day is like”.
